I have a 1993 115hp Johnson outboard that I am getting ready to install a water pump in.I have a complete kit and the instructions call for using gasket sealing compound, adhesive 847, triple guard grease, and moly lube at various times during installation. The Johnson dealership's parts salesman said I didn't need these items, just put the new one back together without them. I have moly lube and marine grease. Can I get away without the gasket sealing compound and the adhesive 847? My Seloc manual says to use these items also.Any help will be appreciated. Jim Baird

Follow the instructions! The parts guy isn't a reliable resource. I bet the mechanic would disagree with him.

Re: Johnson waterpump

There are substitutes for the OMC sealers and greases. Marine grease, or most any grease substitutes for OMC Triple Guard, for a waterpump job. Permatex Aviation gasket sealer substitutes for the OMC Gasket sealing compound, Grease substitutes for OMC Moly lube, Lock tite for OMC Ultra lock. I think I used silicone as a substitute for OMC Adhesive M sealant.
