I would appreciate if someone could tell me if my "new" 1983 25 hp Johnson can be run with muffs. I really appreciate the advice on this forum.
Thanks

For sure if you have the right one. I never use them anymore, I like a barrel.

The muffs really work best with motors with the side vents, which yours does not. Unless in a pinch, I would put it deep in a barrel of water. Congrats on the new motor.

Go with using a barrel traditional muffs won't do much besides burn up your impeller unless you have vertical pick ups on your lower unit put most likely it sucks water from under the captivation plate. Pics will help. The "flusher" for the older style Commercial lower units are a pile of junk and expensive. When running in a barrel make sure that the water pump is fully submerged or about 6 in over the captivation plate.

Thanks for your help. I will stick with the barrel and 6 inches of water over the captivation plate. This is what I have done before.
