Howdy..
I have two older metal 6 gallon gas tanks for my little 14" 1960 Olympian w/40hp Firestone. They fit nicely under the splashwell and was thinking about running a hose form the bottom/side of one straigt across to the other. this would keep the fuel level equal in both and allow me to keep the hose attached to one can. Doubling my fuel capacity. Anyone ever do this? I know I can just use one then swap the hose but Im also trying to keep the weight equal on both sides. Every pound counts in a little boat like mine.

Nope,... I doubt it'll work,+ it's Highly Illegal...

Fuel ports on marine fuel tanks MUST be only at the TOP...

This is something I didn't know. I'm working on a 10" hydroplane that has dual fuel tanks connected by a hose coming off nipples at the bottom rear of each tank.

My plan exactly. I will still be filling and drawing fuel from the top as usual but the two tanks will be connected by a semi-permanent hose at the bottom rear - not intended to ever be removed.

This is illegal??!

Six gallons of gas weighs less than 40#. Not worth all the trouble to rig this up, IMO. Not sure about the legality; I'll have to check my VSC manual. But I have a feeling modifying an approved can in such a major way would make it instantly unapproved.

bad news..... draw from each tank seperately and install a fuel selector valve if you don't want to mess with hoses

Break down and buy a plastic 12 gallon tank. Simpler, safer, and less damaging than metal tanks bouncing around.
