Re: Jumping Solenoid
Actually,.......... Jumping across the 2 Big Lugs will in fact By-pass the Solenoid,+ Energize the Starter Motor,............
But,......

The Bendix Drive will not be Engaged,+ Only the Starter Motor will Spin,..... Not the Engine...........

Jumping from the Battery Wire Lug(the Top 1),.. Over to the Smaller Wire located Nearest the Engine Block, While Not actually totally by-passing the Solenoid, Is the Accepted Way of Shorting the Starter, to turn over the Engine...... This actually just by-passes the Start Wiring, from the battery, to the key,+ the return to the Solenoid Excite Wire Lug on the Starter............
if I want to jump the solenoid when doing some fault finding on the starter/solenoid which nuts to I jump between to bypass the solenoid.
The 1st thing to do for your "
some fault finding " is to Remove,+ Sand the connections,+ Reinstall ALL of the Wires,........ Battery Terminals,..... Ground Wires,...... Starter Connections,.......

You Might be able to repair your boat for the price of a little Sweat,... Instead of Money......

And,..... As stated above,.... Be Careful around Any Wires that can Pass High Ampereage.........
The Shock won't hurt you,... But Any Metal Shorting it Out, Will Burn you Real Bad..........
