Re: Just 16 short years ago...
Let's see, 16 years ago (1994) I did the same job I do now but:
1. I had a cell phone (Motorola with a batt. life of about five minutes). I got to know where every pay phone, in my territory, was. The coverage was horrible and EXPENSIVE. I would get my NEW to me "Voice Mail" messages and find a pay phone to return them.
2. I just got a computer (IBM-286) laptop. There was no external/internet email. I still carried around an IBM "Selectric" in my trunk and did my reports on that. Sent them in via USPS.
3. I used USPS to send "stuff".
4. I frequented hotels that had "touch tone phones" so I could use my phone calling card. Many still had rotary. I remember talking to "operators".
5. I never "swiped" a credit card. It was 100% paper. It took months to settle an expense report.
6. I still listened to Cassette tapes.
7. I used a "map" instead of GPS. I knew which way I was headed without looking at my dash.
8. Gas was still under $1.00/gal.
My Goodness how far we've come. Technology is great but it has it's downsides too. I miss the personal interaction.
