Depending on the computer you have, you may have the files needed to restore your computer right on your hard disk, often times in the case of a crashed computer you will have to boot from your CD or a Flash drive to access them, but many OEM installed systems include them in a folder named "i386" I just had to restore one of my laptops this way last week. Now this works for XP, but this folder is not included in Vista or 7. If you have an OEM XP set up, search for that folder and if you find it burn it to a CD/DVD and put it in a safe place, in that folder is an executable file that will reinstall your operating system on your computer.

Just me funnin with those of you that know we run Mac's in our family. ( now, and had 7 before that)

It would be really good info to have if you are Microsoft bound though. I'm sure it will help others.

I just spent a week working on a current Mac, that got infected, took me a while, but I got it back without loosing any data that the customer had on it, but I can tell, there are some really nasty things out there for Macs..at least when it is wrote for a windows machine, I know exactly where to go, to see what they did!

yeah.
I got some sophos, the time machine system backup and the disks, should be ready to go if needed.

So what did you find on the one you were working on?

Most name machines have a routine that will build a complete backup set of media, including the programs. Microsloth OS products have a routine that will build a boot install set for the operating system. The same program will back up everything else. Easiest way is to back it up into one file, then use a utility program (I forget the name) and cut it into DVD sized pieces.

Before windows 7, if you have any unusual disk drivers, you need a floppy drive to make it work.

The problem folks have is that they don't have a disaster plan in place, and get caught with their pants down so to speak.

I know about backup/restore discs, but I got into a situation that they didn't work, so I had to re-install, it took me quite a while to figure out how to do it, I was really glad to find the article about the i386 folder, it saved my butt!
