Just a quick question...

Hello all, I am new here, and semi-new to boating. I just purchased my first boat...1988 Citation 190XL I/O 3.0 lt merc. w. alpha I... This winter I will be replacing the deck and adding a new sound system...basic updates...but for the time being just looking for some input on the whole winterization process...I just finished winterized her, changed the oil, stabil in the gas, fogged her, and ran antifreeze through the muffs until it was coming out of the exhaust...only problem is that i did not open the petcocks first, will this pose a problem? i spoke to a couple friends who have been at it for some years now, and they said that i should be ok being that its a smaller motor... Anyway if anybody has any input, would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Running anti-freeze through the engine may not displace all the water. If you have pockets of plain water in the engine block or manifolds and it freezes, you will have a cracked block or manifold to fix come spring. The best advise is to open the drains on the block and manifold and drain all the water out. LEAVE THE ENGINE EMPTY. As I read earlier, air doesn't freeze.... The 3 litre engine is NOT a small engine, for a 4 cylinder is it considered big. There is more water in its block than the average V6.

Ayuh,... It's a roll of the dice,... are ya feelin' Lucky,..??

I'd go Drain it, right now, 'n you'll see if yer winterization was successful, or a failure...

Once drained, It's good for the winter...
