Well,I finally found the time to reinstall my 3.0 cobra which hangs off the back of my 19ftr. I was hoping it would go easy, as rain was forecast & I wanted to fire the boat up today for the 1st time this year. I spent over an hour trying to get the damn thing on, then gave up due to rain. The drive is now sitting in my yard, in the rain, & frankly I don't give a s*it. Between constantly having to babysit the shift mechanism, difficulty in obtaining parts & the above issue with reinstalling the damn thing, I've about had it with OMC. No wonder most techs won't touch the damn things. My advice to anyone looking to purchase a boat is to STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ANYTHING POWERED BY AN OMC! If I had the bucks I'd reoutfit with a Volvo & takes this piece of crap cobra & make a bonfire out of it.

You mean OMC I/O's - not known to be reliable engines. OMC for years produced thousands of reliable Johnson/Evinrude outboards, so don't overgeneralize.

As far as I am concerned all I/O's are a pain whether OMC, MercCruiser, or whatever. But I also know many people who feel that way about OB's. The least maintenance/repair intensive boat I have ever owned had a true IB w shaft drive, but I got stupid and sold it. My most recent purchas has an OMC SeaDrive, which I have not yet owned long enough to have started having problems with, I hope!!
