Hey,

A little but of history.......So the other day I pulled my drive to replace the impeller, and have general poke about and clean up, the exhaust bellows was shot again, and I have know idea when the u-joint and shift bellows were last changed..... They look ok but i'm thinking hey, while i'm in here may as well change the lot and know i'm safe......

On to the point..... So my trim gauge packed up months ago and as I pretty much only use it for asthetics there was no chance I was gonne dive in this deep to change em, but now im in here I may as well get it done. I've not done this before tho was wondering if there was any golden pieces of information out there on things to look out for and ways to make the job easier..... Also, when people refer to greasing the u-joints is it a simple case of covering them in grease (coz that sounds too easy) or is there more involved...

Thanks for any advice

P.s as least now its dead easy to get all those f@%kin barnacles off those hard to reach places and get a decent coat of anti-fouling in there! Gonna look brand new when i'm done!

If you have the bell-housing off already the trim senders are easy. Try it with the bell-housing still in place!!! Just follow the factory manual and it's all as it says. Greasing the unis is to inject grease into the needle bearings, but on a Gen II they are 'greased for life'... Don't need to worry about that anymore...

Chris.........

If you don't have the factory manual -> http://www.4shared.com/document/dPQUcyn_/Service_Manual_14.html

And "greased for life" means the life of the u-joint not your life. They fail when they fail but last longer if the bellows is kept free of water.

Actually it is very common for gen IIs to have greasable u-joints, just depends what was put in when they failed. It will be obvious when you pull the leg if they have grease nipples.
