Just bought 86 Sea Ray 340- Stereo died

My first boat, bought yesterday. 1986 sea ray 340 express cruiser. I am as new to boating as it gets but eager to learn. I am pretty handy, I just dont have the knowledge to fix anything yet. The stereo will not turn on as of yesterday, I assume its a fuse? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, check the fuse. If no burned fuse, then pull the stereo can make sure it's getting 12V. If it's not, then your problem is the power lead disconnected/shorted somewhere. If the unit is getting 12V, and the ground is solid, then the radio is dead.

Also check for an inline fuse on the power lead at the back of the radio. It is not uncommon to have one.

Welcome to iboats and to boating. Stuff like that always goes wrong on boats, especially old boats. Tomorrow will be somehting else. Be glad it's something non-essential. You will need to get good at trouble shootingf and fixing on the fly, or hire a captain!

thanks for the advice on the stereo. I think the 12v fuse is just below the helm. I will look into that this evening. Thanks for the welcome, and you guys were right the second issue came up yesterday with 8" of water in the boat. Turned out the filter for the AC intake was leaking. That was pretty scary but I think we figured it out. Now we have to learn how to replace that filter. Any advice on that.

A searay 340 as a first boat? I"m hoping you have LOTS of experienced people to lean off of initially, that is not exactly the recommended way to get into boating. It can be done, but just make sure to have some help along the way, it will save you tons of $$$.
