Like the tile says I have always owned I/Os but found a good deal on a 17' CC with 90 HP Merc and I bought it today. The boat has not been run regularly in a long time (last September at least). Overall seems to ruun OK, but it misses slightly at certain throttle settings (~1500 RPM no load) . I could somewhat feel it in the water, although much less thenon muffs or out of gear in water(no load). At slightly minimum wake speeds it felt like it missed, at slightly more of slightly less throttle settings it was happier. WOT runs fine. That makes me tend to think it is in carburetors. I did a compression test and they were all about 105-108 psi (cold). I do not have a manual for it (yet) so I am not sure what the range is but at least I was happy with the good correlation so I figure the miss is ignition and/or carb. Boat is a cheapie (Trophy) so does not have a tach , so the WOT RPM is unknown, felt like ~40 MPH with 3 adults on the sea trail. I plan on replacing the water impeller, thermostat , fuel/water separating filter, at least spark plugs, and change lower unit oil. Since I have never owned a outboard in my life anything else I should do? I don't think a carburated 2 stoke outboard will ever run/idle , chug like a properly tuned SBC but I am not 100% sure how good it should run at lower throttle settings. Please pile on the advise from those in the know.
