Just got one for $125.00. The guy who sold it to me started it up ok after couple of pulls. Right now it is in my garage waiting for me to clean it up and start it up again.
I am new to motors and just have couple of questions that I hope you all can help me with. I need a new prop. How much is it and where can I get one. I am planning on tuning it up myself and was wondering what I need to do to get it to tip top condition. I have basic engine knowledge and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hong

Is this a chrysler seaking? Can you post the model and serial number? My guess is this ia an air cooled motor however without the model number it is hard to tell.

The motor is from 1979. Chrysler quit producing outboards in 1984 and their last production model for the 4 HP was VWB52004F in 1984. Try this link. It is for a 1979 chrysler 4 HP. They show one prop still availible however I am not sure it will work on your motor.
Chrysler 4HP 1979 or give these guys a call
Discount Marine

Re: Just bought a 1985 Sea King 4hp motor

Thanks for the information Eurolarva!

I tried starting it up today. I never started a boat motor before and I hope it did it correctly. The guy I bought it from said to turn the fuel knob up, pull out the choke, set the shifter to start and give it a pull. It started on the first pull but died couple of seconds later and now it won't start. Maybe I should have pushed the choke back in when the motor started up or turn the fuel knob down a little?
I think I flooded the motor. Fuel is leaking from the carb at the adjuster pin. I think I need to rebuild the carb. After reading couple of post about carbs, I think I can do it. Do I need to remove the gas tank to get the carb out? I am now searching for the carb rebuild kit.

IF gas tank does not have a fuel cut off switch remove it from the motor and pinch the gas line. I would find a fuel cut off valve for it at a hardware store if it dont have one.

When starting it let it run a few seconds with the choke and start easing it in till it warms up. Gas leak at carbs is showing probably a bad needle valve or a float mis adjusted or it has a hole in it. NAPA carb kit 18-7037 should work on that carb cost is about 15 bucks
