I picked up a oil filter and water seperator for my boat.

the boat is an 84 mercruiser 350 chevy rated at 260hp.

I go to the parts counter and ask for a oil filter and water seperator and I get them home and here are the part numbers see if they gave me the correct thing because I think before they were different part numbers.

oil filter they gave me is: 35-866340K01 (looks physically short to me?)

water seperator they gave me is:35-802893T

thanks and even if these are correct is there a better bigger version of each or something? seems like before them giving me filters with different part numbers.

I cant answer your question per the numbers. But I run napa filters and yes you can get both fuel and oil in longer versions.

The fuel filter is the correct one for your engine...but there are other options out there.

Your 35-802893T is a 25 micron filter...Tempo makes one that is 10 micron (MF10), and can be had for around $5, plus shipping, on eBay. In fact...there is someone selling a box of them, and a handfull of oil filters, for $0.99:

Ayuh,...

There's No such thing as a Marine, or Auto oil filters....

They, as well as the fuel filters come in both Long,+ Short versions....

If it screws onto it's housing,+ doesn't Leak,.... You've got the Right 1s....

sure there is marine filters have a higher flow rating and are also thicker and made to be in ther enviroment os salty damp conditions.

mainly the flow rating is much higher..which isn't something to take lightly.

I really wish you would stop trying to show you know it all with threads and not answering the question is it or isn't it the correct mercruiser filter for my engine or not. If you don't know I don't care to hear your OP on auto vs marine filters.

I know they come in different version such as a pf25 vs 35.... that isn't the question.

thanks

That Chevy motor doesn't know if it's in a car or boat in reguards to an oil filter, same oil pump, same bearings.

it works under heavier loads which means higher flow filter is needed.

thanks!

So thats why I shouldn't be using a auto filter..Makes sense, maybe i should be running a marine filter on my 650HP 350.

If you know the answer why are you asking the question?

the auto vs marine deal has nothing to do with it! people don't read..

I just looked the mercruiser quicksiver part numbers for oil filters, and not to my surprise the 6cyl and v8's all use the same filter either the short or long versions. Prove my wrong, I got the info from the MERCRUISER PARTS APPLICATION TABLES. Oh and you have the short filter number, the number for the tall filter is

Why the hostility? You asked several questions in your OP. People ARE reading.

Over the past couple of years Mercury have been superceding the old part numbers for new ones. On the outside of the box your filters came in you will see a list of engine applications for the various filters. READ IT! You'll find your engine listed.

I find your agression at one of the most knowledegable people on this forum a little disturbing. He gave you the information you asked for (maybe not the answer you wanted), plus a little more.

He is also right in that there is no difference between 'marine' and 'automotive' as far as filters go, apart from the markup by the retailer. Use the search funtction on iBoats and you'll find a great thread on exactly this subject. The writer is a filter specialist and tested all the different filters, 'marine' and 'non-marine' and found absolutely NO difference.

Please, turn off the fire under your a**

Re: just got back from my local marine dealer/parts place, not sure if these are corr

marine filters are atleast SUPPOSED to have a higher flow rating.

yes the box says v8...but again whats on my engine now is another mercruiser filter and I assume they gave me the right one last year..and it doesn't match this one.

it isn't a superceded number..such as a quicksilver q02 and q03..

ever think I just may know more than your buddy? just like the time I told you that decal part number wouldn't be the correct one yet you said I was "biting the hand that was feeding me"

$78 bucks later I had the incorrect decal.
