Apparently, my old '88 Alpha one has had it's skeg repaired in the past, and it wasn't done right. It was missing a bit of itself, and bent a bit, so I took it to a shop to get it fixed.

$245 for them to cut off and re-weld the skeg. They apparently had to cut off the entire skeg, and redo the whole thing to make it right. I don't care much for those that go the cheap and incorrect route, when it costs me money later on. :)

But hey, now my skeg won't be causing me to turn to the right anymore.

Yea, that was my reaction too. But I just assume have it done right, and not deal with it anymore either. That, and it IS the only protection my prop has, so I'd rather give the prop it's protection. The two props cost me $80 and $75 too. So total bill for welding was $400!

A skeg doesn'y protect the prop that much believe me. My wife fears the return trip cause almost every trip I take out the prop. :) So she got me a fish finder. Not to find the fish but know just how deep the water is. LOL :(

How do the depth finders compare with the fish finders?

Some depth finders are digital and only tell you the depth of water you are in. This style is commonly found on sailboats.

A fish finder will have a display that will show objects between the bottom and transducer.
