Glad to be here, Just picked up an old 56 10hp.. In process of rebuilding the old girl looking for shaft tolerances, end play etc. for the gear case. Need to reseal it and it seems to be a little sloppy thought i might turn up some new bushings if none were available..
Old 56 10hp QD-17.. It's all there except for a few little thing.. need to get it to run right first.. Anyway Glad to be here..

First thing I would check is looseness / fit of the wrist pin bushings.-----If they are bad look for a donor 61 / 62 / 63 model to update it with pistons / rods swap out.

They upgrade to needle bearings?

Correct , a needle bearing the same part # as used in a V-4 model 125 HP
