Just Some Quick Clarification Regarding Bellows - Dumb Question

Ok, so I finally find a new outdrive for my boat (THANK GOD!!!:D). I feel sorry for the guy, he put $2K in the motor and threw a rod, so he is parting his boat out now and giving up (if this doesn't go well, so will I). Anyways, I am flying home tomorrow to pick up the outdrive and throwing it on tomorrow night. My question may sound dumb, but I haven't been anywhere near boats for a month or so now, and can't remember every little detail:

The bellows do not connect to the actual outdrive, they connect to the bell housing, correct? I am purchasing the outdrive gasket set, is there anything else I need to replace the outdrive? My u-joints have only been used all of four times, so I know they are good, however I believe that in this deal I am getting the u-joints as well as the drive shaft.

I am having withdrawals from not boating, so I don't want to get all excited and skip something important. Any advice? Thank you.

Yep, there is no reason to remove the u-joints and shaft. Six nuts the whole thing slides out. Get ahold of an alignment tool and check yours BEFORE installing the new unit. Check your gimbal bearing. And don't forget the grease. If it is a Merc, remember to put it in forward before hooking the shift cable. (At least on the Alpha's that I have worked on).
Should have her done in about an hour or less:D.

Oops, forgot the question...yes, the bellows are attatched to the housing. They do not come off with the drive.

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, I know my gimbal bearing is good, just replaced it with the u-joints, only four uses on it. Luckily, I bought the alignment tool instead of renting when I did all this, so I have one laying around. Thank you for the help.

Just remember ALL of this happens with the control in forward gear.
