Well, I got tired of fishing from the bank and decided to find me a boat. A friend down the street had a 14' jon boat with a 25 Merc, trolling motor, and Eagle depth finder. The engine wouldn't run ever since he loaned it to a friend. I had a Winchester Model 94 rifle I was trying to sell and we made a trade, even up.

I noticed the idle adjustment screw was missing so I went to the local marine store and got a new screw, carb rebuild kit, gas tank and fuel line, and a couple of new tires for the trailer. After the rebuild, I couldn't get it to stay running but with some help from laddies, the problem was solved.

I got her to the river Saturday and spent 4 hours just cruising around and she never missed a beat! She leaks a little from a loose rivet but She has a small Rule bilge pump so no problem and I'll get that fixed in a few days. She's pretty well equipped for a jon boat. I used to have an old Bayliner sailboat and kept some of the stuff when I sold it. The jon has a Magellen Color Trac GPS, Uniden handheld VHF, Olin signal kit, bow and stern lights, and the aforementioned items. The GPS told me we were going 23.1 MPH WOT with 3 adults on board!

Growing up on the Eastern Shore, (Maryland/Delaware) I am surrounded by water. Along with the numerous rivers, lakes, and ponds, we have the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. I've been around boats most of my life. I've owned a small punt, 17' canoe, 16' Chincoteague scowl, racing airboat, the 21' sailboat, and two 14' jon boats. Oh yeah, when I was 14, I had a 23' workboat powered by a 7hp Johnson outboard. (It did every bit of 3 mph!)

I do outdoors video now and am working on getting a television program into production. I also do video for the local non-profit organizations that is broadcast on our local access channel.

I've been reading some of the posts here and it seems to be a pretty diverse group, especially politically. It's been fun reading the SHT and the Dockside Chats.

If there are any of you living here on the Shore, give me a shout. Maybe we can get together to do some fishing, crabbing, or just cruising.

Dan

Welcome aboard, if you hang out in the Dockside Chat always wear your lifejacket. Your spirit of giving is what this is all about.

Re: Just want to introduce myself and say Hi

Thanks guys, for all the welcoming words. Alden, thank you for your service to our country. I came this close (holding thumb and forefinger a half inch apart) to joining the Navy. Wanted to be a quartermaster.

Magster, if you didn't already have it, I'd use your avitar. I still have my Jolly Roger from the sailboat and am going to fly it from my little jon boat. I love messin' with people's heads!

Gotta run, I understand the Borg is after me.

Dan

Welcome, Dan! This is really a fun and very knowledgeable group. Maybe you could show some clips of that video.
