As you can tell from the pic I am replacing a steering cable. Ive got it moving and think it will come on out but before I do I wanted to make sure that it is coming out the right way.I mean the tube that is sliding out in the pic is supposed to come on out right? Being a support and pivot point fr the outboard I want to make sure. Better safe than sorry you know. O this is a 90 hp P.L.U.S nissan motor around a 93 model I think. Thanks in advance.

If that is the sleeve it should stay put. I had a tough battle getting it back in on a 35 hp Mercury.

I Guess what Im asking is will the motor fall off or collapse the outer sleeve if I continue removing the steering cable as shown in the top pic?

The cable end "should" come out of the sleeve. Ensure it is not bent or damaged. In many cases, including mine, the motor has to be lifted and moved in the opposite direction of the cable to get it out of the sleeve.
