Hello all. Have started tuning a new to me JW-10 3 hp. While cleaning the armature plate carb. cam this morning I noticed no index marks on it anywhere. Now I'm not sure where to set it correctly in regard to the carbs. cam follower. Any help would be appreciated. Rick.

Re: JW - 10 carb./cam setting.

On the cam there are 2 screws, loosen them. (Look underneath armature plate)

Now there should be embossings(dots) on the tank bracket. Move the speed control lever to position between those two embossings. I believe the handle will be over the SLOW marking on the tank bracket. Looking down, the left side of the speed control lever over the "L" in SLOW and the right side of the speed control lever over the "W" in SLOW. You should see the dots anyways.

There is a stamped line on the top of the control cam. Move the free end of the cam out until it makes contact with the cam follower at the index mark.

Now tighten the cam screws.

All done!

This may help, the dotted outline is where the handle should be.

Thanks again. Just thinking out loud here but timing it they way you describe, the index mark would not be required on the cam? I'm quite certain there were none. Never thought of checking for marks on the tank bracket so I will be looking. Much appreciated.

IMG_1887.JPGI found the dots. I never would have if you had not pointed me in the right direction. Many thanks. If all goes well I should be able to fire this motor on Monday. I can hardly wait. Rick.
