I have a 84 Bayliner Capri 16' open bow. It developed a few small leaks and had a few cosmetic damaged areas. We have sanded and figergalssed the damaged areas, and are now onto the point of making it look nice again. Since it was the keel; and lower bow area that were damaged we used the gel resin for the fiberglass which is a beautiful bluish green color and doesn't look very good on a white boat.

Do i need to use Gel Coat over this fiberglass or marine paint? What is the correct application process for either as I do have a compressor but no spray gun.

Local boat stores do not stock gel coat as I have called all of them, any brand and source recommendations?

Any help is greatly appreciated as always!

Re: Keel repair advise

If it were me, since it's on the keel, I'd just get a quart of Valspar oil based enamel and the acrylic enamel hardener additive from tractor supply in Gloss White. Buy the $19.99 HVLP spray gun from Harbor Freight and shoot it on. 24 hours cure time and you're ready for the water. Details on page #10 of my My Flamingo Thread.
