1975 seaswril tri hill w/70 hp evenrude boat torques over to the right under power. you can transfer a lot of weight to port side to get level. If you steer to port just a little I straightens up momentarley. Which way and how much will the adjuastable skeg change this? how much do I adjust the skeg and what direction??

It doesn't pull, it torques over to the right. leans quite abit. If you turn the stearring wheel to the left just a little, it straightens up level for just a bit, then leans to the right again where it stays. at about 15%. This happens at high speed 34mph. but not at slow speed.

I believe the left or right adjustment of the trim on the engine (or skeg as you call it) will only correct for left or right steering issues. Your hull is reacting opposite to the (engine) prop torque. Less power, less torque. Not much easy fix. Change loading or adjustable hull trim tabs

Either you haven't got the boat loaded properly, one side may be water logged or the bottom of the boat has a hook in it.

just throwin this out there.....but if the rubber motor mounts were completely shot, would that have the potential to cause the issue??

Re: keg adjustment for torque

weak transom or loose motor maybe. My first boat would run towards the right under power just before the motor punched a hole into the transom. Is the boat taking on water and are the mounting bolts loose? pictures would realy help of the hull and the motor

Re: keg adjustment for torque

My boat torque lifts the right side and steering pull is really strong. I found that by adjusting the engine plane angle the lift and steer issue was relieved quite a bit. There is still some torque steer but the lift is gone. Manual trim adjustment is tto the third hole on the mount bracket. I tried to get the steering issue by resetting the tab but to no real affect. I am running an old Spectrum 1704 with a Force 85. Like the boat, just would like to get better hull performance, engine is pretty awsome for a low budget unit,

Re: keg adjustment for torque

I checked for any loose bolts on transom, all tight, motor mounts look like new no play. However I am wondering about the water inside the hull. when I took the spedo off the bottom of the ytransom, black nasty water ran out 10gals out of two little screw holes until it quit.Do you think there might have been more on the left side that didn`t drain, but found its way back to the right side? How do you drain the under floor water out? No holes or stoppers. There is a lower area about 3x1/12 by 3invches deep where the fuel tanks set.

10 gals of water = about 80 lbs. Better check for more water.

OP are you saying you have a fiberglass tri-hull boat with no drain plug or bilge pump?

Please post a picture of your transom.

Re: keg adjustment for torque

what is the bad news?

water is getting in the area of the boat that is never meant to have any water. Water leads to rot and on older boats thats bad. Theres always a maybe its not that bad but only core samples and drilling holes to get to the area involved will tell. Get some pictures and post on the boat resto tab of the forum mentioning the water drained when the speedo screws were removed. With pictures they can tell you what to do next
