Alright guys I am finally home.

I took the panel off and got this info off the new breaker.

---------------
Unique Breakers, Inc
Circuit Breaker Type: UBIZ
EIL Classified
2 pole common trip
CU-AL
-------------------

There is no label on the breaker box, it was ripped off. :(

A quick search of the net found this webpage.
http://www.connecticut-electric.com/ubiz.asp

My new breaker looks like the one with the white switch handles.

So do I have an oddball breaker box?

Thanks, Ken

Re: Ken's Breaker Box - new thread

BTW, my breaker panel is wierd. There is no main cutoff. There are two seperate mini panels, the one on top is all the 220V stuff, then there are two big 60A breakers that power the lower panel. All the lights and stuff is powered on the lower panel.

Is this a Zinsco breaker panel?

Thanks, Ken

Could very well be, Ken.

Did you pull the cover off? I'm wondering if you're sure the profile of the breakers look the same? I don't think we stock Zinscos at work, but I'm pretty sure one of my branches does. Shoot me an email (addy in signature) and I'll check for you Monday. We would probably have the exact brand you posted, Unique. Looks like buying from them a 2 pole thin is 46.99.

Do you need a 20 or 30 amp?

EDIT-alright.....re-read your post. Yes, that is an odd panel. Look at it this way. If you were to put up an addition, or a garage or something, how much would breakers total? Current models of accepted breaker/panels are as cheap as 3.00 for single pole, and 6.50-7.00 for 2 pole breskers.

What crab bait said.I vote for the cutler hammer. They have a small clip that goes around the lugs, if you will on the breaker, that holds them tighter to the bus bar. One thing about the GE breakers though, you dont have to worry about them tripping.I had my current meter on a 20 amp circut fed off of a GE breaker, and was reading 27 amps. Thats not out of the ordinary for a short time, but it was reading 27 amps all day long!

House was built in 1977, so its only 30 yrs old.

Thanks for the offer sangerwalker, I already have replaced the breaker. Cost 92 bucks.

Just trying to figure out a cheaper place to get them as more may be on thier way out.

I am thinking of just letting it go for now, if any more break, replace the whole panel.

Wouldnt be a hard job, just need to shut off the main power.

Thanks, Ken

Re: Ken's Breaker Box - new thread

is ZINSCO your type breaker ,KENNY..??

if so ,, HANDS DOWN THE WORST EVER..!!

they're like fuses ,, trip one time an good chance you'll have to replace the breaker..

yeah CPJ,, GE's bad.. wonder how somthings get UL approval..

wired houses years ago.. boss always used GE.. cause cheap.. when i'd go to 'finish' a house,, to see if'n a tail drop wire was hot ( a tester is hard to use on an end of a romex cable ) i'd hold it to a copper water pipe an it ALWAYS just sit hum for as long as you held it to pipe..

onetime i held it to pipe or 15 minutes an it hummed for 15 minutes,, NEVER DID TRIP..

Ken, I'll still check tomorrow for you. I pay cost / .95 for anything at work. I'm sure I can kick arse all over the 55.00.

Ken, just an FYI in case you have another one go out anytime soon. I can get you a 2 pole thin Zinsco for about 30 bucks plus shipping.
