I just finished installing 4 polk db651 speakers. I replaced the factory deck with a kenwood kmr-440u. When I crank the volume the deck turns off and then back on. Do the speakers take too much power and I need and amp?

How old is your battery?

Put a voltmeter on her and check how much it lowers when you crank the volume up.
Also, check the fuse that is installed in your stereo.

Two things come to mind, load that the speakers are drawing as in ohms. If you speakers are on separate channels and are 4 ohm speakers I would look at the battery or the size of the wiring feeding the deck.

Another simple thing to look at is to see if somehow you have grounded out a speaker terminal while installing it will cause the same issues.

I would not look at a fuse UNLESS you changed it to a bigger fuse than what came with it, if i remember correctly the Kenwoods have the fuse in the back of the receiver.

My bet is on the wire that was used to feed power to the head unit being too small. After of course ruling out the battery.

Edit: According to the Manual for that Head Unit it will draw 10Amps max, this means that you should have at least a 12 gauge wire (depending on distance traveled) to properly supply the unit with enough power

My kenwood deck did the same thing just about a week ago. I thought that the 1 year old deck was just shot, but turns out that if you get the voltage low enough when music gets loud it shuts off. Mine was losing voltage somewhere between the key switch and deck. run a wire direct to the battery and it should work fine.
