Hi all, I would like info on the Key Largo, Palm Beach, and Cape Craft line of center console fishing boats, I would like any and all opinions, good, bad, or in between. These boats (all by the same manufcturer) seem to represent a pretty good value for what you get. I had the opportunity to see one (Cape Craft) up close and personal on a recent trip to Florida, and it looked very nice for the money. It was a 16 foot center console complete with a 50hp Yamaha 4 stroke and electronics package, plus a galvanized Magic Tilt trailer, all for under 10K. It so happens that this is a much smaller craft than I am interested in, but it was parked right next to a similar "package boat deal", a key West 17 footer, so for comparison purposes I have to say the Key West appeared to be a somewhat nicer looking rig, but it came in at about 7-8K more on the price tag. I am not looking for anything too fancy, my bank account simply won't accomadate it, what I'm after is a good solid value that will last a while and can be upgraded as needed. I appreciate any and all input. Thanks,

Scott

http://www.keylargofishingboats.com/

Re: Key Largo boats

I see a lot of the small Key Largos around my neck of the woods w/50hp 2 strokes and don't hear anyone complaining. There is (or was) a Cape Craft dealer locally (Merritt Isl, Fl)and that's the only place I've seen a Cape Craft. Comparing the two 16s I give Cape Craft the nod for being a little beefer...it is also about 200lbs heavier. CC has a 17' tunnel hull that looked interesting for flats work.

Re: Key Largo boats

Thanks Bill, I appreciate the info. So far I have not been able to get much feedback on these boats, which is kind of odd, since they make about 20 different models of boat, from 23' CC's, WA's and Cuddys all the way down to 16' bay and flats boats, and it takes quite an investment in tooling, facilities, and a work force to produce 20 models of boat, so there MUST be a market for them, or they would quickly go out of business. They have been in business for about 6-7 yrs. as best I can tell, a few years less for the Cape Craft models, at least based on re-sale value info I found at the NADA used boat webpage, you would think there would have to be a fair number of Key Largo/Palm Beach/Cape Craft owners out there. Well anyway, thanks again and happy boating to you.

Scott

I just got a Key Largo 222 walk in and it seams to be built like a tank. Only one problem is that it lists badly to the left when on plane.

the guys in Douglas, know how to build a boat. they are all good boats. i like the Palm Beach myself. but any of their boats would be a good choice.

Re: Key Largo boats

I ran into the same problems researching the Seapro I just bought. I think when people buy a pleasure boat they try to post about it everywhere and do reviews and such to convince other people they bought the right boat. People that buy fishing boats just go fishing.

You rarely ever hear anything about a boat that works well but if there's something wrong with it people post it from one side of the internet to the other...
