By now all the oil that's going into the bilge is already in the bilge.

You aren't meaning the drive the boat back to the marina, are you?

renting a trailer is the only way it will move. you cannot put a rod thru a pan and expect the engine to turn over let alone run

You could not have put a rod thru the pan and had the motor continue to run., let alone run it for a distance of 5-6 miles FACT.
Losing a rod cap causes no oil pressure , so running the motor even if you could ,would cause a seizure from lack of oil. If the rod did break, it would be clanking until it destructed, again ,not a very long time or would lock up the motor.
Or do you mean you have a cracked oil pan or a rotted oil pan?

As long as the broken rod ain't stuck thru the pan & just gotta a hole, get it flat and RTV a piece of sheet metal to the pan.
If rod stuck thru the pan fabricate accordingly! I doubt it's sticking thru.

Been there done that. Just make sure you the oil from the sealing surface around the hole.

You sound small enough & young enough to fit down in there. LOL cause ya gotta be

Good luck

Wow! Might want to have a buddy standing by for a tow just in case. The main problem you have is that everything is covered with oil, and unless you get it ALL cleaned off nothing is going to stick, and that rod is going to keep pounding on it. Sounds like it is the shallow part of the pan up front. You might try using a rubber pad (like a doubled over piece of innertube (the jagged edges of the hole should give it some grip) held in place with a ratchet strap wrapped around the engine, if you can position it properly, watch out for the hot exhaust. Probably not oil tight but should hold down the splatter. Let us know how it works out.

Just get a tow before you make it worse. If you had a rod through the pan you have no oil. It may be salvageable at this point but run any longer and you are looking at full replacement.

Yeah thumpar that would be the wise decision, but it does not seem to be in the cards. Would like to find out how it works out though

Pool noodle would probably seal up against the pan, or a piece of closed cell foam ratchet strapped in place.

I'm not condoning running an engine like that though...

if you have already been running it without oil, a hole in the pan and a busted rod and you want to continue to run it.!? then do so. the motor is already toast if you did run it for 5-6 miles. might as well make it burnt toast.

then call for a tow when it completely siezes.

Hope you have a fire extinquisher handy. exposed oil, a breach in a combusion chamber, the ignition still connected to that one cylinder. I see a fire at a minimum.

back to your original question - there isnt anythign that you can patch it with that will hold unless you get the pan off. which would be after you get the motor out. you wont get it clean enough for anythign to seal since everything will be contaminated with oil.

you may be able to get a wad of JB weld putty mashed in there if its just a gash to at least slow any oil.

my recommendation - like everyone else is saying. get a tow.
