I have a stainless kicker bracket on my 21ft pursuit made out of stainless and in very good condition. I want to mount my 9.9 (75lb 2stroke) on it but its missing the motor mount. Can anyone lead me in the right direction to finding one I'm having a hard time just finding the motor mount. I was thinking about making one out of wood, but I'm worried about it splitting under load. Has anyone made there own with success ?

Thank you

That's what I was thinking. Two 3/4in plywood glued together and then coated in epoxy.

You are going to crack the "seal" that the epoxy would be used to create when you lock the engine down and the raised lines across the clamp bracket (designed to keep the engine from coming off the mounting) dig into it. It probably won't be that big of a deal especially if the bracket doesn't get regularly soaked from follow on waves when you come off plane.

I would use linseed oil and some turpentine and soak the plywood in it before installation. I have soaked plywood like that many times and never had a delamination problem. HD has both. I use the two as I can get a goodly amount of oil as compared to the prepared treatments for household decks. The turpentine is a vehicle to thin the oil and allow it to better penetrate into the wood. Then if you choose, a coat of oil based paint to make it look pretty and you have good looks and internal protection.

Ayuh,... Ditto Mark's ideas,....

Epoxy coated wood, won't allow the motor's mount to bite into the wood either...

Mark's formula for wood treatment is exactly what I did to my transom, 15 or so years ago,...
No signs of rot in it, Yet...

OR---you can just leave it alone. It is always above the water line so it will stay dry and not rot. If it delaminates after two seasons--so what? It is simple and cheap enough to replace.

For my small kicker I used plastic cutting board 3/4 inch thick works well after 4-5 years and no maintenance at all.

Re: Kicker bracket motor mount

You could do the plywood/epoxy method and use one of those rubber transom pads to mount the motor.

The one that was on my boat, when I bought it, was just painted plywood. Seemed to have stood up well for the PO.
