Hoping this is the right forum.

I have a 24' Thompson hardtop and I am looking for a kicker to put on....question is what size. I have seen alot of similar boats that have 9.9 hp kickers. I have my eye on an 8hp four stroke...would that work?

Thanks for the help.

That might not be enough for a 24' Thompson if you ever need it to battle current or winds. I would be looking at at least 15, maybe 20HP.

Re: kicker motor size

I was thinking that a 15 would be better.

JB. Also, saw this section after I posted the first....guess, I should have waited for a mod. to move it. Sorry.

Yamaha T8s work great on boats that size, they also make a 9.9 and 15 high thrust, but the 8 is what most people use.

I have a Yamaha T9.9 (high thrust) on my 23 Seacraft. I had a 15 hp Honda previously, you get more control with the T9.9, a little more speed w/the 15 hp Honda, but much.

I'm with JB on this one. It will move the boat O.K. on flat calm waters but may well not be enough against stronger currents.
