I am thinking about buying a 1976 johnson 35 hp outboard for a kicker/auxilliary motor. I have a 1974 Sterncraft I/O and am wondering if this motor is too heavy for a bracket to be mounted on the back of my boat?

Why such a big kicker? How big is the boat? If you want power and lightweightness get a 15hp. theyre the same size and weight of a 9.9 weight little less then 100lbs

ya a 35hp isnt a kicker that a main motor on its on if you just doing like fishing and want a trolin looking in to the riptide ecltric motrors or a 5hp motor or for a kicker just to get back to shore if you break down a 8 hp does the job i know some one that has a 28 bayliner and his i/o has problems every now and then and he has a 8 hp on the back and that go him in every time so an 8 or a 9.9 is good one

Don't even concider it.
Your only going to get under 10 mph because that old 35 isn't going to get your boat on plane.
You will be far better off with an 8 - 15 hp.

a 35hp wouldnt have nearly enough power to push such a big boat at planing speeds just a waste of gas and money
