Would anyone know how well a 6HP kicker motor would do on a 26' 1977 Carver. Its weight is around 6000lb,. I would be using it for emergencys only.

I also 99HP a 9.9HP but want to keep that 14 my 14' Aluminum.

It will get ya going, but forget reverse...ya can paddle it quicker. I had a 5 1/2 for a bit until I got the 15 on my 25/5000lb. Would get me to shore though. 6 will probably work, unless you deal with tides , or in the Bay there. Forget the Ocean!

Re: Kicker Motor

My boats 2800 pounds 21 foot Aluminum hull and I have a 15 HP Long shaft and it not enough power.

Top speed no wind or waves almost 5 Miles per hour WOT. I do not know about you but I would not run my kicker at WOT for more than a minute or two.

Wind and Seas and it more like 3.5 Miles per hour.

Offshore with big swells even with a 20 inch shaft and motor all the way down on the kicker bracket prop sometimes comes out of the water. When it like that must slow to just over idle speed because when the prop comes out of the water the motor would over rev. Also after coming out when it drops back in and the prop bights it will break the flywheel key and your dead in the water. My kicker all the way down with a following sea will go completely under the water and still the prop will come out on the Really bad days. (8 foot seas, seconds apart)

For a boat your size if you go offshore try to get a 25 inch shaft and 15 to 25 HP.

If I buy a new motor will likely be a 20 HP HONDA with a 25 inch shaft but not cheap. Then I guess saftey gear is cheap at any price.
