Dont want to hijack Jeff In PA's downrigger thread but his pic opens an exciting (for me ) option. He has a gas kicker on his pontoon. anyone else figure out how to do that?? Any mounting or op picks.would sure be welcome.

Re: kicker on a toon??

yeah, we stuck a Merc 9.9 on the back of the right side pontoon. our local prop shop made up a bracket that bolted directly to the brackets between the toon and the deck, and we found a Remote Troll on e-bay to handle the steering, the remote troll has a long cable that has a simple thumb switch for left or right (it loves turning left, hates turning right)

luckily the 9.9 had tilt and trim so we did not have deal with any jackplates or any of that stuff. this is on a 24' 2003 Party Barge. at WOT in Utah's altitude, it will reach FOUR MPH,GPS. sorry, no pics right now, i'll try to get some tomorrow

gas was just a simple T section in the main fuel line with a primer bulb for each engine.

really the only bad parts of the whole thing would be that when the wind blows it takes a little while to get straight again, and i am pretty sure the kicker's tilt is not quite getting it clear of the water when not in use as their has been a slight drop in top speed from the 115. but the comfort of knowing we can still get home if the big engine has a problem makes up for these two little things. it has already happened (115 had carb issues).

it may cost a little more than you plan for, but thats just how boating is.

This may be a little off topic but I always thought it would be beneficial to put a trolling motor on so if someday the motor kicks out "which in my luck will probably happen" I can make it to shore again. Anyone ever done this or does it even work if you have a 55lb thrust???
