Re: KICKER QUESTION

I have a Merc 500 50 hp on a 20-inch transom, and I routinely use short shaft (15 inch) kickers ranging from 4 to 10 hp for trolling and as a backup. You'll go faster if you can get the cavitation plate down even with or just below the hull, but no worries if you can't. You just won't putt-putt-putt along as fast, that's all.

Re: KICKER QUESTION

Jesballs<br />I do not know the size of your boat or where you boat, but I would go with the long shaft. If you do any ocean boating or area with big swell it is a must. Short shaft in ocean often has two problems, Power head goes completely under water and then the prop comes out of the water with a following sea. Inland flat water the short should work ok.
