I would not wish them on my worst enemy! Man, I though I was going to die tuesday night. My wife called 911 and I had an ambo ride into the hospital, we were thinking my appendix burst. We got there and I was so dehydrated they had a hard time finding a vein, I couldn't wait, because when they found it my new friend Morphine, and equally delightful friend Dilaudid became a part of my life.
The first shot was Morphine, and 2 subsequent shots were Dilaudid, plus the gave me Dilaudid to take home. I passed the first stone wednesday night, and am waiting for the other to make its way out.

I hope NONE here get them, they are horrible. I have a very high pain tolerance, and my wife was surprised because I was almost crying, and cussing up a storm, as I flopped around the floor like a fish!

Re: Kidney Stones

One of the guys at work had this happen.

It's terrible deal.

His DR made him go in a container with a strainer on it to see when he passed it. Like I'm sure he knew he passed it.

NOTHING you can do except happy juice when needed.

Yep, I pee through a strainer too. The weird thing is passing it through the urethra didn;t hurt at all, it's the trip from the kidney, through the ureter, to the bladder that will bring a grown man to his knees.

Re: Kidney Stones

Had one of those things years ago. Navy Docs on Guam simply pumped me full of morphine 'til it passed.

Before the morphine I wasn't afraid I would die, I was afraid I might live.

I have been cut, stabbed, shot, broken a few bones, had 4 heart attacks and got the snot beat out of me in an alley fight. No pain I ever experienced was in the same class as a kidney stone.

I hear ya! I asked my wife to kill me as I was thrashing about, I can almost laugh.
In the hospital, the morphine shot lasted 45 minutes, then the dilaudid shot lasted another 45 minutes, they asked me about my tolerance to narcotics and I told them it was high. They gave me a bigger shot and it eased the pain for 1.5 hours.
Who'd of thought a little 5mm asteroid would do this.

The passage from your kidney to your bladder is the size of a pencil lead and about 6 inches long that's where the excruciating pain and blood comes from ripping and tearing all the way........

Re: Kidney Stones

Supposedly, one of the reasons why some people get them, is because they don't drink enough water. I've also read that excessive use of chalk based antacid tablets can cause them.

Glad to hear that you are getting through this. I had an employer get hit with one at work one day - he too was on the floor writhing in pain. Every single person that I have ever talked to that has experienced this, has said it was the worst pain that they ever felt.

Been there felt that, demerall and percocett (SP) are my friends. The pharmacist was concerned about the percocett and asked if I was in a car accident. I said, no, kidney stone. He filled it quickly with the warning about addiction.

Fortunatly no problem, just pain relief.
I was told that some people are just more prone to it. Also the Dr. honestly said that beer could help. Liquid so you pass it and anasthetic so your loose and don't feel it. I would have needed a LOT of beer.

I did have one removed by ultrasonic pounding, That was cool. Felt like a kidney punch for a day or so but I was back to work that afternoon.
Good luck and ask your Dr. if he/she has had one. They are much more sympathetic when they have.

Re: Kidney Stones

I passed a couple a few years back and wouldn't wish it on anybody.

But that pain was probably half of what I felt after a 3 quad hemorroidectomy.I definitely wanted to die.Felt that way for a week.

My father use to get those all the time. It was hard to watch him in such pain. I hope your recovery is speedy. Good luck.

Re: Kidney Stones

I used to get one about every two years, my first attack I went to the ER late at night the female doctor on duty laughed and told me now I knew what it was like to give birth. Now I drink lots and I mean lots of water and have been kidney stone free for about 4 years. Hope I never get another, it was worse than the heart attack I had many years ago.

That's what my instructor said. He had one last friday. He said out the peter was painless, it was from the kidney to the bladder he said it was excruciating.
