Hello,<br />I have a merc serial # 1649737. From what i gathered at oldmerc.com it's a 1964 850, 85hp. I hope that I understood that right. The motor runs great. I have a pretty bad gear oil leak though. I don't have a manual yet, as I want to be sure of the year and model before I order one.<br />Anyhow, the leak is coming from the top of the lower unit where a metal rod goes into a rubber boot into the lower unit. I do not know what this rod does, as it is out side the gearcase. Can anyone gather from my explanation as to what this part is, that is causing my gear oil to dribble out, where the rubber boot is torn.<br />Can we post pictures? I could take a pic and upload it if it's more helpfull.<br /><br />thank you very much for having this message board.
