Kiekhaefer Mark 58 Gear question

I just want to make sure my lower unit is operating properly. When the LU is in neutral the prop spins freely either direction. When the LU is in drive there is resistance counter clockwise same as when the LU is in reverse. I would think that drive and reverse would have resistance in opposite directions. Am I missing something here.

Most Mercury motor in forward gear will click when turning prop one way and lock up the other way.--------What is yours doing when in forward gear ??

It does exactly that. It locks up when I turn the prop counter clockwise and clicks when I spin it clockwise. It does the same when it is in reverse.
