Kill Switch and what year-----

Hello,
The serial # is J8SRLCRM

I think it is a 73,74 or 75 Johnson Sailmaster 8 hp with long shaft. Is the kill switch located at the end of the handle or tiller? If so, there is no movement in the button. Any help would be appreciated.

That's a 1984, so it's newer than you thought. Kill switch is at end of tiller handle.

And the ring around the stop button is the idle speed adjustment.
