I am trying to wire a kill switch on my outboard. Have finally figured out wires on the switch. My question is I'm guessing a kill switch is normally open and shorts to ground when pushed. My situation is there is a push button already installed in the dash (no wires hooked up) but it is a NC button. As opposed to shorting out the magneto wire; putting the PB in series with the white wire do the same thing? I'm just trying to save the trouble of plugging a big hole in the dash. Can still do it the other way. Thoughts or otherwise? Thanks RF

I am not sure about this because I always use NO buttons for stopcircuit. A NC in series at CD box for stop, can I say can damage the box because when you open the circuit the power has no where to discharge and the voltage may increase and fail the box.
This is a theorie and it maybe wrong, BUT why not change the NC button to a NO typ and use the same hole?

The white and blue wires are the stop circuit. When you turn off the key, white goes through blue to ground (at the engine terminal). This discharges the capacitors inside the CD box, keeps them from charging, and prevents spark.

Putting a NC switch in series with the wires will do nothing. Putting it in parallel with the white and blue will simply keep the engine from running unless the button is constantly pushed.

Much better to take a NO switch and put it in parallel with the white and blue wires--simply connect to the two "M" terminals on the ignition switch.

HOWEVER: The best solution is to break down, spend the money and get a real dead man's switch with lanyard
