Okay guys,
I'm waiting for the lower unit on my 73 Merc 500 to come back from the shop (reseal) and I'm wondering bout somethin. It doesn't have a lanyard kill switch like the modern motors. Have lived without one so far, but is this a MUST HAVE safety feature? If so, is there a source for aftermarket accessories like this? Thanks.

Re: Kill switch retrofit

it's probably a law to have attached while running.

I would think west marine or someplace like that would have an aftermarket one. You want one that is a closed circuit until activated. Killing the power to the switch box is what stops this motor. Splice the switch in with the appropiate wires going to the control box.
