kill switch

The plastic key switch on my boat with 1993 100HP evinrude broke so I bought a new Sierra switch the dealer said would work. I wired it according directions and didn't work. Finally gave up and JB welded the old one back together and wired it like the diagram I made before I pulled it (maybe). In keeping with my luck and ability, it then didn't work. I've looked at wiring schematics for my motor, and for the switch and have a couple questions. The switch has two M's that are are both raised and i can't tell if they are different, or matter. One is for the ground and other for kill circuit. My kill switch has three wires coming from it, two black/yellow and a black ground. I currently have the black going to an M with the other grounds and one of the black/yellows going to the other M on the switch. The other black/yellow from the kill switch goes into the harness heading back to the engine. Any suggestions?

To kill a 2 stroke outboard the magneto wire is grounded
Suggest get a universal kill switch and wire it up

Your Black/Yellow wire going to the Mag connects to one side of the kill switch. The other side connects to ground which would be Black.

What you want is when the tether is in the switch there should be no connection between the M and G terminals. When the tether is removed there should be a connection

Thanks, I can do that. Wondering though, with the tether in place and the shift in neutral and 12+V to the switch(B) shouldn't the engine fire in start position? The other M(non-Mag) is grounded.

Never mind that last question. With three wires from the existing kill switch, I could have the Mag grounded in all key positions I suppose.

Still trying to find out what's going on. Wired everything back to old switch and started checking circuits and have no voltage at red/purple bat+ terminal now. That wire goes in harness, then somewhere, guessing solenoid or direct to battery, but don't know. Checked all the fuses near the battery on + side and all good. Battery good and on charger. Any idea where my 12V strayed?

Ok, so just found a little fuse under the cowling that was hiding near the solenoid under a wiring cable. It tested full of ohms so will get a new one and crawl back under the dash tomorrow.

Hey GA_Boater needs to go to Evinrude section

You only want the M terminal to be grounded when the kill switch is pulled, or the key switch is turned OFF.

I'm not an OB guy but GA will move to the Rude section and you should get more folks looking

The red/purple I'm unable to find a diagram to show it, but I would normally think that it comes from the battery thru a breaker to that wire. A Mercruiser uses that color to feed the key switch thru a 20 amp inline fuse
