Hello,

Getting ready to do the preventative KDP tabbing on my cummins, 188k miles and it genuinely worries me.

I ordered the TFT kit, any pitfalls I need to be aware of?

Thank you,

Take a look at the TDR website, there is a lot of information there about the dowel pin.

The front seal is ment to be installed dry with no oil or lubricants applied to the seal/crankshaft serfice. It is designed to burn in place the first time you start it and then seal. The seal i had even said to use no oil.

KRS, I know this is an old thread, but you have the same year Cummins as I do. The KDP can be tabbed in about 2 1/2 hours with nothing but hand tools. One of the most important things to remember is the fan has LEFT hand threads and you don't need the cover gasket. Cummins recommends the grey gasket maker in place of the gasket. If you need any more assistance let me know and I can help.

Well, I got it done a little bit ago.

Ruined two crank seals.. it was a frustrating night.

I've never done a crank seal before, so on # 1 I put the clear-whitish alignment pilot on facing the wrong way and it didn't work and the seal was creased by the crank snout.

# 2, I was driving it into the timing cover with a screwdriver and my wife said something so my attention went briefly away and I punched the screwdriver right through the teflon seal.

# 3, took the timing cover to Dodge dealer, bought a new seal, asked a tech to drive it in, they did it for free.

Came home, used the alignment pilot (facing the right way) and it went smooth. There was some resistance from the seal expanding to get the alignment pilot pulled through, but it went great. Couple of hundred miles later and no leaks.

My KDP was fully seated, had never been peened in place; so although it wasn't going to fall right away, I'm glad I did it.
