Ayuh,... Or even a 460 Ford King Cobra...

They are a breed all their own...
If their Different, it's because there's a Difference in 'em...

Howdy,

And Welcome to iboats....

Well where do I start? Like the others above, I'll assume that you have a 460 (King) Cobra.

The one that went behind the 5.7/5.8 engines will have the closest ratio to the one you need.

I don't know if the yoke is the same but the pivot housing is the same.......so, The other drives will probably "bolt" on.

The correct drive holds 108oz of oil. The smaller ones hold considerably less.

Would they stand up to the torque of a 460?...... don't know.

I know the 460 drive has been run behind stroked 460's and survived......One guy over on Offshoreonly said his 211 Liberator would "bury" the speedometer at 80 mph with a seriously built/stroked 460.

I don't know how long it lasted though....

There are a few parts for the 460 drive that are no longer available. (like the vertical drive-shaft.....you can find them used though)

The manifolds, coupler and risers are available again albeit for about double what they cost for the other models.

It would be more helpful if you indicated what year and model you have. 89 and earlier are VERY different from the 90+ models.

If it's a 90 model with a 460 that has the Spitfire ignition, you may have the cone clutch model drive. It has it's own unique problems.........

I am guessing that you need a drive for yours and you do not want to pay the premium for the very scarce "King" Cobra......if you can find one.....

Good luck on that.

I cannot say if the smaller drives will work. After you change the yoke and cobble something together that fits, let us know how it goes. I don't think anyone here has tried it.....

I had one in my 87 Four Winns 211 (in my Signature below). I fixed it another way. One way or another you may be doing the same thing....

Once you get to needing a drive, you start looking VERY close at how good the engine is and whether or not you want to spend a small fortune on new manifolds risers coupler, ignition parts (if needed) etc.......

Add that to the cost of a rebuilt/reman or even good used drive and it becomes less and less cost effective......

Sorry about that....
