This is a '85 Mercruiser 140 MR, I reciently bought. Complete dealer service including Bearing billows hose ect all new last Sept and stored. Seems to work fine on muffs. But going over it real close I notice a slight kink in the water hose where it comes out of the drive and turns up in the gimble. Turn it hard starboard, clear to see, no kink. Straight still clear to see and a hint of a kink. As you turn it port it looks like it is begining to kink but the gimble blocks sight about half way through the turn. Am I worried needlessly or do I need to strip it down? tough to get a clear pic but you can see my concern above my finger at the shadow line.mercrusier%20water%20hose_zpsu0at9ixv.jpg?1432000228457&1432000229417.jpeg

If it doesn't cool well twist it a sixteenth or eighth of a turn. Or if you are certain that the kink is biased to starboard loosen one clamp and twist the hose to center it. You can do it, try to reach in there with the drive raised before taking the drive off. If that doesn't work take off the drive and put a block of wood in the bellhousing to hold it at a good angle to reach in to the hose.

I'd already removed the drive to verify all new parts, they are. I'll try the clamp / twist but it will be the top of the hose, unless the internal plastic retainer on the bottom can be removed without breaking it? 1st time with an I/O, learning as I go. Is this a common snafoo?

Do you know if its oem hose? I bought a Mallory kit once I had the same problem hose was to lite. I bought oem and was much thicker and didnt kink. Also the hose must be trimed to the write lengh. I believe 10 9/16 but not 100 percent sure on that measurment..

The bellhousing end is brass, the transom end is plastic. I'd turn the metal end.

Yep, got in to it tonight, Found as you said, like I said learning i/o as I go. Gave it a bit of a twist. That seemed to do it. I'll keep a close eye on it. I half expected to find what flipbro said about triming to length, used to run into that often with cars back in the day. I'd bet he's right, looks like 1/2 an " shorter would be good. Thanks, these are the kind of things learned by experiance.
