Knock after gimbal bearing and joints replaced

I replaced the gimbal and u joints due to water any joints were chewed up. Problem now it there a knock at idle. And that lessens with rpm. Then gets very loud at 20 k pm a roar. Two different noises. I’ve pulled off again and re did Alingment could turn toll with two fingers and came out easy. The vibration feels like at the bell housing or fly wheel the out drive was hard to push in. But went. Any ideas

Think you may have a bad alignment tool since its hard for the drive to go on. Dimensions should be



With the drive off, place your fingers on the gimbal bearing and rotate it, does it feel smooth?

Turning the tool is not the measure to determine if the alignment is on and neither is how easily a smooth greased tool pulls out. It's about how the greased tool piles up the grease on the tool top or bottom.

Did you insert the tool and use a rubber mallet to tap on all sides of the tool to align the gimbal bearing with the coupler before checking the alignment?

So I removed lower unit and ran water. To engine. Ran and had same noise. My flywheel is loose and it appears to b hitting my starter or at least in the general area. So lift engine Unless there’s another way that won’t burn down boat and then realign. Need more time and hands I have a A frame and hoist from putting in engine. Lock tight this time
