just got boat from shop re: earlier posts. Motor runs pretty well with weak cylinder but wouldnt shift. They went into foot to replace shift pawl, and now there is a distinct knock when you spin the prop over by hand. He says this rattle is common on those v-4s but i know it wasnt there before. What could cause this and could itbe honest mistake for the given work. Seems to me if he put it back together correctly it shouldnt knock. I just replaced prop and spun it before taking to shop and know it wasnt there.

Jamar, disconnect the shift cable at the motor and move the shift linkage by hand in either direction and see if you can make the noise go away. If it does go away and the prop spins freely both directions then put your control box lever in neutral and adjust your cable control until it will hook back to the linkage where you moved it to make the noise go away.

Thanks Walker i believe you are dead on the money. I finally thought about it and just returned from finding that the shifter wasn't "positively" in nuetral. Corrected that and spins freely now. Figured and adjustment might be in order. Thanks for the step by step.<br />Glad i didn't upset my mechanic.
