knock sensors used for draining block on 7.4 GiPEFS ???

Good day gang,

In the service manual it says to remove the port and starboard side knock sensor's to drain block, but on my block I had two brass 9/16" plugs about an inch lower and aft of each sensor. When I removed the plugs a ton of water drained from the block. Is it still necessary to remove the knock sensors? The knock sensors show no sign of being removed ever...

Since I can't look at it, I will just take a guess and say it's probably ok. There may have been changes in the block after the manual was printed.
