Kohler 7.3e cranks won't turn over

I have a Kohler 7.3e genset on my 2006 Rinker 390 that stalled when docking 3 weeks ago. Since then I have not been able to get it to start. I have replaced: spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter, water separator, control board, engine wire harness.

I believe the problem occurred because a hole in platform washdown box caused water to drip onto the wire harness/control box.

The genset will crank but not turn over. I can sometimes get it to turn over if I cover the carb intake with my hand and it will run for 15sec to 2 min but then shut off. It is producing the correct voltage when it runs and it will run without holding start button but it soon shutoffs. It almost feels like it is getting no gas. Carb looks clean but I just got rebuild kit so that is next.

Anyone have any other ideas of what could be the problem.

Trying to get it working so I can fully enjoy last few weeks of season on Cape Cod. Thanks

Yup,rebuild carb, but is the oil full? It should have a low oil shutdown senser. Also with the rest of the issues the sender could be toasted also. You could bypass the sender and try it just to test...only test though.

Thanks. How do I test without sender, and for that matter I should try to test for the other 4-5 shutdown switches. Do I just unplug at the switch or do something else. I am thinking it is electrical because it will sometimes run for a few minutes and produce power.

Not sure on yours, some switches are normally open, some normally closed. I think you can just unhook it,and give it a try. If that fails, ground out the sender wire and try it. Hope this helps ya.

Check the overheat sensor on the exhaust manifold. And are you sure the water intake filter is not clogged. Impellor on the pump bad? You say now it runs a few minutes and quits. Sounds like its getting hot or thinks it is.
