Trying to figure out how the coil pack on the Kohler twins work. It has one set of points that feeds one coil that has two plug wires.

Tried a regular coil with two plug wires in it, but it of course pops through the carb. Trying to figure out how it switches the spark from wire to the other.

New coil cost around 100 bucks and hate to put that much into this mower since it only cost me 200 to begin with. Old coil is dead shorted.

Any ideas?

Re: Kohler Twin Question

It fires both plugs at a time, one cylinder on exhaust stroke one cylinder on compression stroke.

Clanton is right. The same way a big v twin HD fires. Both at once.

Re: Kohler Twin Question

So, a regular coil should work? Huh?

Tried it earlier, but it started popping through the carb. I'll check the compression to make sure the intake valve is seating. But it was running/starting great before the coil shorted out. Dang on gremlins, gettin into everything around here.

run a leak down test. a lot of those big Kohler twins had a compression release on the cam.
