L-drive,where does the starter go?

Hi all,just bought a 1991 bayliner capri l-drive.

The starter was taken out of it to get repaired and was never done so as of right now there is no starter in the boat. I found the starter solenoid, but the power lead that runs to starter was not attached to anything. I have a new starter in the mail. I have tried finding where it goes but i cannot seem to figure it out.

Anyone know where the starter goes? Hopefully not behind the engine where it is difficult to access.

ok well im ssuming starter goes there, but if i fit the starter in that spot, the gear on the starter wont be turning anything.

i am a little lost on this l-drive if anyone could give some advice would be appriciated

Your picture doesn't show a flywheel. Flywheel has a ring gear on it's outer circumference that engages the teeth on the starter.
