Hi...great forum,,,I have a new 2002 150 carb Evinrude that I mated with a 1990 lower unit .
First question is what lube do I use in the lower unit?? I'd like to stay away from my dealer if possible, so if there's something I can use at my auto parts store, I'd prefer it.
Second question is I had the boat out for the 1st time since the new motor, and my warning buzzer went off twice. 1st time I let it sit for 10 minutes and it was fine. 2nd time the boat was sitting for about an hour while we ate, and as soon as I turned the key, my buzzer was screamin' at me. Water was coming out luke warm. Bought motor new fully dressed, so I'm thinking it's not a sensor. New water pump also...any ideas...Would a temp gauge be the way to go??...thx

I'm confused. You say you bought a "fully dressed" motor yet you mated to a 1990 lower. do you mean a fully dressed powerhead?
The buzzer is telling you one of the following.

1. You are overheating.

2. You are not getting oil.

3. You have a fuel restriction.

Use OMC/Bomardier Hi Vis lower unit oil. Anything at the parts store is a "have to" choice.

thx DJ..you are correct..it was a powerhead...it's on a 1990 boat, so it doesn't have the full harness for all the warning buzzer features, just temp...used an adapter harness to mate the boat harness to the powerhead...any chance there's a problem in the ignition switch area?? buzzer sounds for a fraction of a second when key is turned.

It is supposed to sound when the key is turned, that is a "prove out", just to let you know it is standing by.

Check the other items I mentioned.

ok DJ...one more question...since I don't have the full harness and gauge from a motor equipped with "system check", are all the warning sensors still routed to the buzzer thru the adapter harness??...thx again
