I am busy replacing my boat’s transom and plan to use 5 pieces of plywood each 9mm thick laminated together with mat and resin to give me a solid 49mm transom. I would like to know what is the best method to apply the resin and mat to join the two pieces together. The transom size is about 1.9m x 0,5m. I was thinking of first coating the plywood with resin let it gel, apply a second coat on the one side and add the mat, add more resin to fill the fibers then add the second piece of plywood and weight down to cure then repeat the process for the remaining 3 pieces of plywood.
Thank you

Re: Laminating plywood

i'd say you have the right idea... just i wouldn't 'let' gel... do it all as wet as you can & as fast as you can...

it'll probably start to gel anyway buy time it's all said & done... ;)

good luck an good thinkin'..

Re: Laminating plywood

you can screw the layers together for added strength. I did the with my transom, worked fine.
