laptop cursur problems

Hey folks, I have a fujitsu laptop c series I just bought about a month ago. I'm having problems with the cusur. Sometimes when I type, the focus will change from where I'm typing to where the mouse cursur is. For example, when I first start a post, the mouse cursur will be before the first letter in the text box, and stay there while I switch from mouse navigation to typing in text with the keyboard. Sometimes the focus will switch over to where the mouse cursur is, and I will then be typing in everything where the mouse cursur was at.
I have deleted the operating system and reformated and restored the O.S. The problem is not as frequent now, but still exists. I am using a Microsoft optical mouse, and no other peripherials. The problem occurs whether I use the external mouse or the touch pad.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Yep. But it's when I'm typing and the heel of my thumb contacts the touch pad - operator error.

That was my question, is your hand hitting the pad?..even with external mouse, pad is still active.

You can get a PS2 splitter to be able to run external mouse and keyboard if it only has one jack.

I'm sure it's not that. I've been very careful, making sure my hand or shirt sleeve does not hit the pad. I'm not ruling it out entirely, but I haven't used laptops before this one, so I guess it's possible. Thanks for the replies!

If your laptop has the option to turn off the pad, try that, then you can rule it out and try something else. If it will do do it, there is usually a button near the mouse pad to turn it off.

Thanks Vipzach, there is no button, but I can disable the pad through the software. I'll try that for a few days and see what happens.

My old laptop used to do that to me all the time. I still needed the touch pad sometimes tho so I cut a sheet of postit note paper and pasted it over the surface. problem went away and the pad was still useable when I didn't have a mouse along.

JD

Thanks Pascal. I may try that too. I haven't had the problem come back since disabling the pad. I guess that can be expected though. I have an optical mouse so maybe I'll just leave the pad disabled. I can use the mouse on my leg if there is no table or flat surface available.

Bingo...mine has been turned off for 5 years now, can't stand touch pads.
